Lone Tree in the Palouse - Simply B&W

Processed with Simply B&W and Filterstorm
Yesterday before the must see sunset on top of Steptoe Butte (the mountain in the background) I took my friends to the Lone Tree. This amazing beauty stands proudly among the golden wheat which will be ready to harvest in about 3 weeks, quite late this year due to a wet and cold spring.

When I arrived I instantly decided my best image would need three things: wheat in the foreground, and unobstructed view of Steptoe Butte in the background and the branches of the tree gracefully bowing. So I moved into the field, carefully watching my steps, until I had the tree and Steptoe in position. Next I knelt down eye level with the wheat heads creating a sweeping foreground. The camera I chose was ProCamera because I wanted the wheat heads sharp and not blurred as they blew in the wind. When I looked up to see where all the other iPhoneographers had positioned themselves, I noticed a few cameras pointing my way. I must have looked like a tiny dot of color among the golden wheat, therefore causing me to be the attraction instead of the tree for a moment.

A few days ago I was introduced to what many great iPhoneographers consider to be the best B&W processing app, "Simply B&W". The app is easy to use and understand. The best part is the colored filters that allow for greater control of the image processing. I liked one color filter for the sky and another for the foreground so I blended the two together in Filterstorm.

I would love to be your tour guide for a photo tour next spring or summer in the Palouse. I do private, semi private and group tours. Specialized for your individual needs. For information contact me at: teri@terilou.com
