Rialto and Ozette Beach Hikes - Olympic National Forest

Rialto Beach

After spending a week traveling and camping through the Olympics with my X5 and iPhone, I have captured many amazing images. I will admit however that one of the images that I hoped to capture didn't happen. I have seen some incredible images from the Hoh Rain Forest, however on the days I arrived the skies where brillant blue which didn't allow me to capture any wonderful images. The following day I went to the south entrance of the Hoh and just as I saw the incredible scene I wanted to capture the fog lifted and the sun shone brightly across my scene. One would think I would appreciate the sun shining but not necessarily at this particular moment because the wonderful mosses that where hanging from the tree couldn't be captured right in the harshness of the light.
Now onto the moments when I appreciated the bright blue sky. At the beach! So after the unsuccessful attempts of capturing the mosses of the Hoh, we decided to head to Rialto Beach, a perfect place to enjoy the sunset on the horizon. Well guess what? The clouds started coming in thick as we drove there. So I had a change of heart and decided the beach was the perfect place to enjoy a cloudy afternoon and early evening. I love to walk the beach, exploring, collecting rocks that capture my eye and of course taking photos.

The above photo was simply captured with the Hipstamatic camera and sharpened in PerfectPhoto. The drama that the point and shoot options that Hipsta allow really worked this time.

I had never visited the beaches of the Olympic National Park and really enjoyed the rugged and wild wilderness of it all. What fascinated me the most was the ease in which you could just pitch a tent on the sand, tucking it among the driftwood and spend the night. I really got envious when the camp fires started to burn. I really do need to pack marsh mellows with me so I can invite myself to join in....lol.

Yellow Seaweed and hole in the rock
The above image was taken yesterday during a 9 mile triangle hike near Ozette Lake. The tide was going out and we arrived in time to capture the swallow water among the seaweed. This is a 10 image capture with the ProHDR camera. I simply processed it with Snapseed. I am really enjoying the U-point technology on the iPhone.

  1. We were born before the wind,
    Also younger than the sun.
'Ere the bonny boat was won, as we sailed into the mystic.

Hark, now, hear the sailor's cry,
Smell the sea and feel the sky.
Let your soul and spirit fly, into the mystic.

When that foghorn blows, I will be comin' home.
When that foghorn blows; I wanna hear it; I don't have to fear it.

And I...wanna rock your Gypsy soul,
Just like way back in the days of old.
And magnificently we will float, into the mystic.
