Another Jixipix Winner - Portrait Painter HD

It doesn't take me long to download an app developed by Jixipix. Their latest is Portrait Painter HD for the iPad only.
I processed today's portrait of Mark, Buddha impressionist, and I in Nepal last January with it. The impressive Himalayan Mountains are in the background. It was a fun moment among a long day trekking in amongst the lower villages.
This app reminds me a lot of the same feel I get when using ToonPaint. A playfully processed image during a playful time!

The effect was a bit strong for me so I blended the original back in using Image Blender. I use this technique often!

Sultry Argyro

There was a model shoot at Mark Hosko's house last weekend.

This is beautiful Argyro. She is fairly new to modeling. When asked to look sultry, she appeared puzzled. As the photographer began to explain, she cocked her head at him and said, "I'm Greek I don't understand sultry."
Personally I think she was born understanding.

Lesson One - Playing with Apps

The sunset tonight was fantastic. I captured it with ProHDR hand held because I didn't have time to set up my tripod. After dinner, while sitting in McD's where I could get internet, I started processing the image.

My traveling companion, Mark Hosko, has watched me process my images over the last few months and has offered artist advice when asked, but he has never apped an image himself. Until tonight.

I was asking his advice on some simple contrast and saturation techniques to use in Filterstorm that he might use in Photoshop and handed him my iPad so he could show me 'what he would do'. (Actually it was a sneaky way to get him to prepare my blog post while I worked on other things.) Two hours later, after 'playing' in Filterstorm, fxPhotoStudio and Blender, he took the image in a "direction that I wouldn't normally have gone."

I really enjoyed watching him make creative choices and introduce more possibilities along the way. It is always fun to show off the capabilities that the apps have.

Sharing your Passions with Friends

Friendship comes in a variety of strengths and lengths. As with everyone, some of my friendships have lasted a lifetime, while others have came and went. This past year I am fortunate to have met many people who share the same passion for photography, iPhoneography, art, travel, nature and adventure as I do. I believe it is important to be surrounded by people who share my passions, believe in me, inspire me and push me to become better. Some of the people I have met this year are incredible friends who do just that and I want to say thanks! I am so grateful and appreciative of the strong bonds I have created!

I also include my inspirational students on my new friends list. I am grateful for their desire to learn, their persistance and willingness to play. Each week I am so impressed with the quality and variety of images that are posted by them. Thanks for choosing to take my courses and for the friendship you give to me.

Another type of friendship that I really appreciate is through social networking. I enjoy the photos, posts and comments that are shared so easily and freely. I am fascinated at how small my world has gotten through the ability to communicate with people everywhere. Many times each week I receive a comment, get asked a question or share a 'like' with someone I would never had a chance to know otherwise. I want to thank those friends, you have enhanced my life.

This summer I have been honored and very fortunate to spend a few days photographing with a few of my new friends. I have throughly enjoyed the adventures, the laughing, the learning and the creating together. It has been very rewarding to be able to spend time with them. Thanks again for these special times!

I recommend getting together with friends who share your passions often. I always come home from these experiences more motivated, inspired and refreshed. I am so happy that I have a list of friends that I get to share my life passions with.  

My heart warms at the thought that many of my new friends will be added to my lifetime list and that is incredibly awesome!
