Sledding Hill

 Winter is upon us. Some places like Texas are colder than usual and the East Coast is expecting to be dumped on again. So I thought I would share what my driveway looks like in Eastern, WA right now.

One my favorite things to do is to go sledding down this perfect 1/3 mile hill. It is even more fun at night, in the pitch black. Every year I have some of my best laughs on this hill. We have several varieties of sleds from simple round disks to large inner tubes covered in durable fabric. We sled as singles and have even made trains of 10 people. Yes the crashes have been dramatic but no one has ever got more than a bruise or two. My wish is that I never get too old to go sledding.

Graffiti Underground Pano

The Graffiti Underground, located in Philadelphia, is a place I could return to time and time again. It is ever changing in lighting, mood and artistic talent. Usually I am quite adventurous and will enter places many feel uncomfortable about but this is a place I would not venture to on my own because of its location. For this image I arrived at dawn to capture the soft morning light and still water.

This is 9 ProHDR images merged together using the app Autostitch. Autostitch is a powerful app that seamlessly stitches at least 60 images together. (A friend of mine has tested it to 60 and I have personally stitched up to 25 images.) As I stated in a previous post it is very important to have a large overlap, at least 1/3, of the images to provide the app with enough information to complete the process. Also in wide images make sure you are capturing enough information on both the top and the bottom of the image so that you won't lose any important part during cropping. This image actually wasn't cropped hence the broken black border, cleverly disguised!

This morning I wanted to post a different type of Hipstamatic image. This is actually 5 Hipsta's captured from a busy street corner last month. I purposely captured the images knowing that I wanted to stitch them together afterwards.
If you plan on stitching images together, you must be sure to overlap the captures by at least 1/3 and preferably 1/2 with bordered Hipsta's. These images were captured with the Dream Canvas film and therefore the border is very wide. If you don't overlay enough the stitching program won't have enough detail to know where to stitch. Personally I do most of my captures for stitching with a tripod. This way the iPhone is steady and oriented from the same location.
I use the app AutoStitch for all my stitching. It works wonderfully. You can also crop the stitch within the app. However with this image I like the black border and left it as is.
