Photos from the Past - Palouse - iOS Processing

Today I wanted to process this truck as if I had found the photo in a drawer of an Abandonded House in the Palouse. I knew there were several apps in my arsenal that would process it with an antique look however which ones would create just the right look I couldn't decide.
It took several tries to get it to look like my minds eye was envisioning, but when I did it felt just the way I wanted it to. I truly believe that your emotions are such a driving force in the way you process and present your work. Once you know the tools that are available you can use those resources to play with.
How do you know it is right?, well sometimes you just need to believe in your inner voice. As I kept trying new apps and blending my image this way and that, I kept hearing, "no that doesn't accomplish your goal." So I would add another layer of an antique like filter, "still not right" so I would back up a few steps and start over. It wasn't until I cropped it and added a filter that softened the entire frame did I really feel settled.
So what apps did I use you ask? Well this time it isn't so easy to list them as I can't be sure if the Structure I added in Snapseed for the third time and masked it in with Filterstorm on just the truck really matters. The lessons I want you to learn are 1. Play with your apps to learn what is possible with them. 2. Keep in mind a theme or feeling you want to portray while processing. 3. Enjoy

Photo iPossibilities - Antique Look

After my Ah-Ha moment in October 2010 I spent months learning everything I could about capturing and processing with iPhone applications. I was an addict spending 12-14 hours a day looking for my next fix - an app that I could explore and play with.

Since that time I have been committed to processing ONLY on my iPhone and iPad. I want everyone to know that the images posted on my blog are possible with only these two devices. I am so committed that I have traveled to far away places with only my iPhone and iPad, mind you I did have a back up of each, just in case.

Long ago I set a goal to motivate, inspire and show what is photographically possible with iOS applications on the iPhone and iPad. I started teaching to help fulfill those goals.

Today I am launching, "Photo iPossibilities" a Monday column that will address questions from you regarding iOS photography to hopefully continue to fulfill my goal and keep you inspired.

My first column shows a before and after image from Cambodia. The original image was captured just before sunset as the boats were coming back from a tourist cruise. I processed the image in many steps before deciding on the final result. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to create an antique look. I made that choice for a couple reasons. 1. The scene appeared to be timeless. 2. I knew when I captured it that I would have a hard time getting any detail or light in the foreground since it was strongly backlight.

So if today's question was: Is it possible to create an antique image with only the iOS applications? The answer would be yes. In my example I used OldPhotoPro, Dynamic Light, Filterstorm and TouchRetouch. I also recommend Vintage HD (iPad), Pic Grunger, Noir as other options.

Pinterest Contributors and iPhone Photography

Yesterday it was mentioned that I am now a 'Pinner' on Pinterest, pinning various iPhone Photography items along with a few other interesting things. When learning the ropes I discovered that community boards can be created, so an idea.

I have created two boards that allow 'others' like you to contribute. The first one is for iPhone Photography -  'iPhone Photography on Pinterest - A Board'.  The second board is for pinning Photographic Apps -  'iOS Apps for Photography - A Board' So here is how it works: The boards can be found on Pinterest by clicking on the links above. If you would like to contribute first follow me in Pinterest and then send me an email asking to be invited as a contributor, make sure to send your Pinterest Name.  teri@terilou.com

Once added you can contribute by pinning to the board. With your help these boards will be a wealth of information for all iPhone Photographers. If all goes well I will continue to add other community boards...so what do you think? Send me an email.

The Last Pixel Show is pleased to announce two destination iPhone Photography Workshops. The first is in Napa Valley this April and the second is in Palouse this August. Please click the images on the sidebar links for more information. You can also go directly to the website at http://thelastpixelshow.org.

When processing this image I just couldn't stop. I loved the original image straight out of Hipsta and then I loved the effect with just fxPhotoStudio and TimelessPhoto. But then I wanted to use PencilPaint and AncientCanvas filters to give more color and dimension to the image. Next I had to use Filterstorm to dodge and burn in places. Then I wanted to add more to the rather large white frame,  so that is why I used Grungetastic. At this point I thought it looked terrific until I remembered DynamicLight, so I decided to add a little bit of it too. The art of processing is addicting to me. At times I am like the energizer bunny, I just keep going and going and going....lol!

Combining Painterly Apps

Single Horse Trailer
Spent another wonderful day in the Palouse. Travelled on some different roads south of Uniontown. The wildlife is abundant, sighting several dozen white tail deer with fawns; even a porcupine. The weather even though a bit chilly is sunny, feels great. So fun to turn a corner and discover treasures like this single horse trailer.
