Iceland Grass Church on the Farm

A common concern my students have when processing images is that they can't always remember which app they used. I try to free them of this issue because I believe the the logical brain and the creative brain are in conflict with such a concern. I would prefer that my students play, create and have fun then worry about which app or app filter was used. It is my thought that if you are too worried about keeping track you aren't freeing yourself to just be the artist.
I do realize that in order to learn you must keep some kind of track of your steps and thoughts so I recommend that my students make quick screen prints of the processes as they go along. It took some time for me to be able to look at an image and know which apps were most likely used, but in time I did.

Today's image is from a farm in Iceland. It was because of images I saw of this farm that I knew I had to go to Iceland. I am so grateful that I got to go. It will be a place I will always long to go back to!

Churches, Farms and Iceland

So many church to capture the countryside is full of them.

Many of the churches in the countryside are right next to a farm. Sometimes the farms are abandoned sometime they look like they should and are not. The pastor used to live on the working farm next to the church, but that isn't common anymore.

Sadly today it rained most of the day. The clouds were low when we went over a wonderfully scenic pass, but couldn't see much at all. It would have been great to have fog instead of low clouds, but no luck.
Ended at a great waterfall where a bride and groom were getting their photo taking in the rain. It was hilarious. Mostly because the paparazzi was also there, my two fellow photography companions. They most likely got a better photo than the hired photographer. lol
I did happen to capture a few images in the morning before the rain.
Heading towards the Glacier tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing the ice in the water, among other things.
BTW I have gotten out my big girl camera. But am enjoying my iPhone very much, especially in the rain!

Blending with the apps Filterstorm and Blender

On the way to the Palouse, I pass through the small town of Sprague, WA. Last year I saw this church several times standing prominently on a side street. However I didn't capture it until this year a few weeks ago.

I also wanted to share that I had a great experience with Apple at the Apple Store today in Bellevue Washington. I had experienced some problems with my new MacBook Pro so they immediately replaced it onsite, helped me transfer all my data and I was given a $100 iTunes card for my trouble.

Yes, I realize that I would not have received such service with a PC.

Now we are transferring my info from my time machine backup to the my new machine.

ProHDR - single shot
Sketchmee
Paintmee
Blender to blend the two above and again with orginal
PhotoStudio - bumpmapped
Filterstorm - to brush back in more of the detail from the original

Blending, in my opinion, is what makes the images I process work. Without Blender or Iris and FIlterstorm my images would not be as complete.

In iCreativity, I explain not only the importance of blending but how to do it in any creative ways. Sign up for my course to find out more in detailed directions.

Back in Time - Saint Boniface Church - Uniontown, WA

I was very surprised to find this church in the Uniontown, WA. What a treat it was to photograph the inside of it.
This is a 3 image Autostitch, creatively processed using Filterstorm, ArtistaOil and PhotoStudio. If you look closely you will see that the foreground is painted and tinted to give it an antique look whereas the background was kept sharp and brilliant. I chose to process it this way to create the feeling of walking from the past into the preset.

Reviewing AutoPainter HD a great app for blending

Hipstamatic Camera App
Being introduced to a new app can sometimes be overwhelming. I have so many apps, in so many full to capacity folders already, that my home screen is completely covered with iPhoneography stuff. So the problem is, if I don't like the app then I have to find a space for it in the basement, per se, and if I do like the app I have to demote an app out of my favorites, or 2nd favorites. It is a problem I run into often.
So when I saw what effect AutoPainter was creating for my fellow iPhoneographers, I had a feeling that a demotion was in order. AutoPainter is the type of app I needed right now, simple and to the point. Not many options and no bells and whistles, just a straight forward painter. It offers 4 different painting styles, in a 3 step process. The unusual part is that you can stop the process early if you like the effect it has created before it is done.
In the case of this image I liked Benson the most and let the process go to completion. And for those of you who know me well I didn't stop there. I also processed the original in ArtistaSketch and blend those results with the AutoPainter version in Iris. Next I added two layers of frames with PSExpress and two layers of picGrunger. My final step was completed in Filterstorm by sharpening and darkened the cross and steeple a bit. Oh yeah I used Impression for my copyright.
I would recommend the app for those of you who like a painterly look and yes it is now in one of my favorite folders!

Country Church

Country Church in Pennsylvania

An update to fxPhotoStudio HD for the iPad was released today. It is a much needed improvement that now includes slider adjustments like the iPhone version (fxPhotoStudio).
Today's blog post was processed using the updated app on my iPad. I saved the process as a preset so I could share the code with you. See below. After I processed the image in PhotoStudio I blended it with the original in Iris using Normal as my blending mode. I then returned to Photostudio to add the frame. My final touches were done with TouchRetouch to remove telephone line, PerfectPhoto for sharpening and Impressions for copyright.
