It was a busy summer and therefore my blogging came to a stand still. My goal for next month is to get back to it! As most of you know who follow my Facebook posts I became a grandma to Brayson John and my youngest daughter was a bride just last week. I also was thrilled to visit the Palouse several times as a tour leader.

Speaking of touring the Palouse... I recently launched a new website that I hope you all choose to follow. I also have a Palouse Meetup group anyone can join and of course a Palouse Facebook page that many of you 'liked' already - thanks much. In other words I am loving everything Palouse! and I get to visit next month since I am leading a private tour - lucky me!

Since I love the Palouse and leading tours I have recently announced 5, yes 5, Palouse tours for 2015. (and as always I am available for private tours all year long). The Shades of Green tour is being offered 3 times since May and June is such a popular time. Then in August I am offering the Abandoned House Tour and the Harvest and Family Farm Tour. Please check them all out since they each have unique opportunities.

Hipstamatic Freebie Friday - Snapseed and Frames

Framed Palouse Barn - Hipsta Style

This afternoon I was sitting at my computer with my iPhone nearby and all of a sudden it sounded like the Hipstamatic App took a photo. A little freaked out by the sound, I glanced down at my phone I saw a notification from Hipstamatic informing me of a FreePak and telling me that IncrediBooth is free also. I smiled thinking how amazing technology is.

I instantly was directed to the app and the New W Mag Pak. It is now downloaded among the 23 films and 24 lenses. So glad that I can refer to the Hipstamatch app to see the incredible amount of combinations I can capture with this camera choice. Yes I do have my favorites, but I never want to miss out on a free Pak and add to my Hipsta collection.

For today's post I decided to use a Hipsta image for the after the notification. I captured this image a few days ago and I haven't had a chance to capture any shots with the new W Mag Pak yet.

I am using the app Snapseed a lot in my processing. In the Tune Image Folder there is the White Balance option. Below I demonstrated how the barn changed from an orange/red to a rich red.

Infrared, IR, Processed iPhone Image - Palouse

It was about a year ago that I received a phone call from Dewitt Jones. He complimented me on a couple of my Palouse images I had captured with my Nikon last summer. I was honored that he took the time to make the call - it made my day - well I was excited for a long time! He was the first person to purchase my Photographers Map of the Palouse! Now fast forwarding to present.... The last 3 days I had the privilege to show and tour the Palouse in the company of Dewitt and his wonderful wife Lynette.

Following my recommendations we headed out each day to discover what the Palouse had to offer: rolling hills, barns, farms, combines and clothes on the line! We shared in the wonder of the vastness and abundance of the fields of grain. We got our socks full of weed thorns, the car covered in a fine powdery dust and I learned how to take images "Drive by shooting style!"

I learned a lot about the passion, play and love of photography that lasts a lifetime. To share in the endless excitement and willingness to break the rules was very rewarding.

These past few days reinforced that I am on the right track when I encourage 'play' and that by following my passion, not only as a photographer, but as a way of life I can and will continue to inspire and motivate others just as Dewitt and Lynette have done for me.

Palouse - Old Silos - About to Fall

Palouse, I will be visiting again at the end of the month for a Girl's Only Photo Tour - spots still available!

Attention to my blog has lacked a bit in the last week. The main reason is that I bought a new computer converting from a PC to a MacBook Pro. Most people would say it is about time. I resisted because I tried to make the jump about 5 years ago and only ran into frustration. So it took a bit more poking and prodding this time even though it made all the sense in the world since I am a full fledged iPhone and iPad girl.

Thanks to my good friend Harry who is very willing to answer all my basic questions I am converting easier this time. (However I am making a list of questions that I will have tomorrow.)  

Tonight I got distracted from my blog because I have been importing all my iPhone images into Lightroom on my new Mac. File structure is so important. The import is easy and I must admit easier with the Mac or at least Harry showed me a new trick. The time consuming part is the organizing and keywording. I am being diligent. I truly believe it will pay off. Especially since I am going to begin printing my images soon because many people who see them are asking me where I am selling them, very flattering.  I have not went in that direction yet because I wanted my first goal to be to teach iPhoneography. Well as many of you know I have began to accomplish that goal so I will be learning more about the world of printing – even though I am resisting that too. There is much to learn, thank goodness for good friends…;-)

So today’s image is a rather simply processed one. The original is a Hipsta image, sharpened in Perfect Photo, the Antique Canvas filter and black frame was added using fxPhotoStudio and that is it.

I am back in the Palouse

My friend Dick and I are in the Palouse for a few days. The spring wheat is just starting to grow. What a gorgeous day we had in the land of red barns, green fields, blue skies and white puff clouds.

Yesterdays post was all about taking many apps and blending them together to create an artistic view. I decided to use that same long list of apps and see how it would look on the Oz Barn in Redmond, WA. This combination of blending and brushing is long but actually doesn't take that much time once you become familiar with the apps and what they are capable of doing. This is just one example of what is possible. As you look at my blog posts you can see that the same app can have many different effects. Spent the day on a photo shoot with my friend Steve and his daughter, Sammy in and near Redmond. Steve had done some scouting on his scooter for me. This destination he called Oz, because it had a building that looked like it had fallen from the sky. It was a great location with a terrific red barn that I instantly captured a 6 image stitch of. However when I walked down the hill and found this old ladder leaning against the red barn, I knew I instantly this was the shot.
I enjoyed processing with Sammy tonight. She is a quick learner. I will post her creation tomorrow as we can't seem to make the connection work right now.

Creating Mood and Emotion

Something I struggled with is putting emotion into my images. With the iPhone apps, however, I have expanded my creative processing beyond my imagine, allowing me to express myself in so many ways.

I always admired so many techniques that  other photographers were doing, however the cost of all the plug ins to Photoshop made it prohibitive to just go out and buy them. However that is not the case with iPhone apps. At 2 and 3 bucks each I can easily make the decision to give it a try!

So try I have, currently I have 93 photographic related apps. Crazy I know! I have 22 different camera apps alone. Some also provide great post processing options. I have listed my top favorite apps, at the moment, in the right hand column. If you ever have any questions about any of them let me know.

Okay on to the image at hand...
I stopped by this barn because it had a great sign on the outside of it. Since I needed to be on the property to get a good image with my iPhone I had to ask for permission. When I entered this barn and saw how wonderful it was inside I instantly changed my mind and now had to ask permission to photograph inside. So with permission I walked around getting many detail shots.

What I wanted to do is capture a true sense of place and decided I needed a wide shot to do that well, so I shot 3 ProHDR images that I could later stitch together in Photoshop - please keep in mind I was a newbie at the time and didn't even image that I could AutoStitch in the iPhone itself . (BTW Autostitch is incredible, some say better than Photoshop!)

When I finally Autostitched this image I wanted to make it look like a period piece, age it a bit. I am very happy with the emotional choices I made.
